Karlskoga Families in the 1600s
Introduction
Most of my grandmother’s
ancestors lived in Karlskoga and present-day Degerfors. Therefore, in the
1600s, I have ancestors and relatives in almost all the little farms and
villages in what was then Karlskoga parish. When I searched the records in
the 1600s, I copied the information about all the families and organized
it by place. I decided to include this information in my web site as I
thought it would be helpful for other people who have ancestors in
Karlskoga.
Only a few places are included so far, but I will be adding more, and hope eventually to include all the places on the index below. These are not all the places in Karlskoga parish. It does not include places, such as Degerfors and Bohammar, for which I could not figure out family relationships. The families in each place are organized according to a descendant-style pedigree, beginning with the earliest settler for which there are records. When there were no records to suggest a date of birth, I have also estimated these dates according to this pattern: Mother age 22 at the birth of the first child or age
28 when only one child is known In compiling these records, I have done my best to determine family relationships, but these may not all be correct. Sometimes the records show definite relationship; other times they only hint at a possibility. I have tried to note where relationships are indicated but not proved. Also, these old records are difficult to read and I am an American trying to read old Swedish. I could easily have made errrors in interpretation or in copying. Please let me know of any errors that you may find. All records cited are for Karlskoga parish or Karlskoga härad unless otherwise noted. |
The following records were frequently used:
Boskapslängder (animal tax lists) for
Karlskoga härad, 1626-1640 Bouppteckningar (probate records) of Karlskoga, Örebro, Sweden, 1718-1769 Domböcker (court records) Karlskoga härad, Örebro, Sweden, 1629-1730 Jordeböcker (land records) for Karlskoga härad, 1649, 1652. Landskopshandlingar (provincial accounts, various tax records), Värmland, Sweden, 1590-1624 Mantalslängden (census or tax records), Karlskoga härad, Örebro, Sweden, 1642-1713 Sockenstämmoprotokoll Karlskoga Församling 1659-1703, Karlskoga Bergslags Hembygdsförenings skriftserie Nr 3:2 Johan Johansson, Bidrag till Karlskoga Krönika ur Noraskogs Arkiv (Stockholm: Ivar Haeggströms Boktryckeri, 1895.) |
