Rancho Buena Ventura (RBV) was established in 1965 in California after their first Peruvian mare was imported from Peru. The mare, Patita, arrived by boat with the first major importation of Peruvian horses to the United States. Soon after that, two more imported mares were added and the ranch started to grow. Now, it maintains 40 to 50 head of Peruvians, most of which are descendants from the original three mares. In 1988, RBV moved to Rupert, Idaho, continuing the breeding/training operation on the family farm. There are currently three generations working on the farm. The farm is located along the great Snake River in the south eastern portion of Idaho. During the past 40+ years, RBV has taken a very active part in the promotion and establishment of the Peruvian Horse in the United States. In addition to various promotional activities, like parades, exhibitions, lectures, and horse shows, the ranch continues to put on clinics and help teach people about conformation, gait, and history of the Peruvian Breed. It has been the goal of RBV to breed and raise a good boned, strong, well-dispositioned, and well gaited horse. Our horses range in size from 14 hands to 15-2" hands, and from 800 to 1150 pounds. We take pride in the intelligence, strength, and beauty of our horses. Our mares look feminine and our males look masculine, regardless of whether they are a gelding or a stallion. We sell very few stallions because we believe that a stallion must be superior in every aspect and that only 5% of all males born have that very special quality. We have produced some absolutely awesome geldings along with some wonderful stallions. |
